Surface Smiles

Surface Smiles is a body of works that explore the toxic coping mechanisms around mental health. They portray the immense effort we go through to disguise the internal pain, and the unsustainable approach of covering it up.

The words “help me” are forever on the tip of the tongue but never seem to manifest themselves into a conversation. Without an outlet for help, we find ourselves adopting the art of an illusive smile, a facade of confidence and humour to mask the deterioration of our internal battles.
