Culture Culture

Culture Culture is a collaborative effort that celebrates the cultural practices of Māori and Graffiti art. Myself and Tawck (Earnest Bradley) dug deep into our cultural backgrounds to bring to surface a body of work that enabled us to channel our indigenous roots through the lens of the urban craft of graffiti art.

These works are not an attempt to rewrite Māori art, but instead; celebrate our identities as Māori artists in these modern times. My brother and I are of Māori, Samoan and English heritage, our indigenous roots flowing back to the far north via the Mangakahia river where they grew up under the mighty Maunga Te Tārai o Rāhiri of Ngāti Horahia.

Where we acknowledge Ngāpuhi as our ancestral home, we also identify the Western suburbs of Auckland as the birth place of our cultural teenage egos. The both of us are founding members of the GBAK crew (est 2004), and where our indigenous roots have allowed us to navigate a personal and spiritual journey, our ties to graffiti have allowed us to navigate the world.

Both of us have spent a lifetime, creating and challenging each other, these little rivalries have paved the way for the both of us to forge our own full time art careers, these works are a result of that and act as another pillar in our journey of building our own legacies.
